Sweet, savory, and full of cozy takeout-style flavor, this Mongolian Ground Beef Noodles Recipe comes together in under 30 minutes with simple ingredients you already have at home.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
8 oz noodles (lo mein, udon, ramen, or spaghetti)
3 green onions, chopped (whites and greens separated)
5 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp ginger, minced
½ tsp red pepper flakes
½ tbsp oil
½ tsp sesame oil
3 tbsp soy sauce
½ tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp chicken bouillon
2 tbsp mirin (or rice vinegar)
¼ cup water
Black pepper to taste
2 tbsp water + 1 tbsp cornstarch (slurry)
Instructions
1. Cook noodles according to package directions; drain and set aside.
2. Mix sauce ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the slurry.
3. Brown beef in a skillet. Drain and remove from skillet.
4. Add oil to skillet, sauté green onion whites, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes for 30 seconds.
5. Add sauce and slurry; simmer until thickened.
6. Add beef; cook 4–5 minutes.
7. Add noodles, green onion greens, and sesame oil. Toss and serve hot.
Notes
Omit dark soy sauce if unavailable.
Substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
Adjust chili flakes to increase or reduce spice level.
Freeze only the beef and sauce portion; noodles do not freeze well.
